    e30 spring rate question

    hi there guys.

im just started looking into modding my e30.
its been my reliable daily and now its time for some fun.

ive decided on ground controll coilovers.

but i dont know what spring rates to use.

ive been recomended 440 lbs/in front and 700 lbs/in rear. to go with bilstien shocks. its ment to be a stiff trackable street set up.

i like a stiff, responsive set up. but im not too sure on translating numbers to a idea of what the feel of the car will be like. and im not wanting to buy them and then have to buy new springs to change the ride.

does anyone have any experiance with this or have recomendations on spring rates?

    thanks, leigh

That is definitely going to be stiff, more so than H&R Race springs (315/570). You could get some idea of what it will be like by riding in a car with H&R Race. A lot depends on the roads driven, if this is a daily driver. H&R Race rates are about as much as I'd want on the street and we have pretty good roads here.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

the roads here..... well they differ. most of our main city and highway roads are nice. infact auckland has had a huge revamp. but the country or out of town roads and highway can be shockingly bad.

i think id like the stiffer set up. i like to be able to throw the car around and have some fun at times.
