I had the front struts out of the car today in hopes to get the Koni S/A's in and ran into a problem. The front Koni struts are bigger than the stock, and the top strut shaft nut is to small . Has anyone ever installed these and ran into the same problem? I would have thought that Koni would have supplied the 2 bolts to save the aggrivation Looks like I'm going to have to find 2 bolts that fit...anyone else have this problem? Where did you get the bolts?

What year is your car? Early cars sometimes have 45mm strut tubes rather than 51mm like the later ones.Adam Fogg- '88 M3

This sounds like a call to the shop who sold them, Konis come with the proper sized nut with that has a nutsert in it prevent it backing off.Comment

you're talking about the nut that goes on the top of the damper to hold it on the front strut mount.
the koni sa's I got from ground control came with new nuts and a locking washer. You can either call the place you bought them from or find an appropriate nut and locking washer from a hardware store. It is a different size than the stock nuts.318is -gone-

I have had Koni's on 3 differant vehicles of mine and everyone has had them. I have bought from shox.com before they were a net company and they had strictly a 1.5" sq ad in VW&Porsche, always an upfront company.
Call them and explain to them there was no nut. Now Bilstein has gotten cheap as they no longer include the spanner wrench anymore with their kits. You have to specify you need the wrench. BAV sent me one then turned out they said that Bilstein no longer includes them, They ordered me one direct from Cali. and paid for the shipping.
So sometimes it's great to deal with BAV. Now I have spanners for Audi's and VW's and BMW's. It helps, I was doing a friends Audi 4000Q rear the other day and having it was immenseful help.Comment

I called Koni directly, who told me they should fit as is and that they also supply metal washers to make the diameter larger, which would be the reverse of what I'm looking for. Can anyone who has installed these on their car give me some insight. The guy at Koni said there may be an insert in the foot valve on the stock suspension that needs to be removed...has anyone had this?
The bottom line was, they were right, I was wrong, and if I needed the nut I would have to give them the correct thread pitch and diameter to get the correct nuts??? WTF!!!Comment

Finally got the issue cleared up. Basically, there are 2 glan (sp?) nuts that are required to swap out the suspension which Koni does not supply...interesting!!! I called up ground control, who supplies them in all of their kits, and was happy to hear they sell them seperately as well. Bottom line...I had to pay another $50 to get 2 nuts that should have came with the suspension from the beginning...Comment

Hmmm bad customer service. Have you spoken with Koni in KY? I would express disatisfaction with them and see what they have to say. Then if that doesn't help fire one off to Koni/ITT in NL aka corporate hq. If they don't specify that more is need then it's just a plug and play but without mentioning you need to buy more? WTF.Comment
