Shock valving on BC and Megan coilovers

When looking at the suspension options I can get for around a grand, I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a set of BC or Megan coils.

I'm leaning towards a 6K or 8K setup as the car will not likely be tracked often and I'm more concerned about everyday performance on crappy roads. Does anyone know if there's any difference in the shock valving or "tuning" between the two brands?

Besides price is there any reason to go with one brand over the other? I realize they're pretty much identical and everyone claims they come from the same factory.

I'd like the car to ride at a similar height to the jstock set up I'm currently running. Fairly low but not slammed. Any need for shorter front springs?

    Thoughts?

I dunno about megan but BC will valve the shocks if it's out of the shock's stock range. I don't believe your rates are though.

    Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

I have the Megan's on my car and they ride great on So-Cal roads (crappy roads). The valving between the two are identical. Megan racing have very good warranty service and could offer custom rates as well.

If you're going to keep the same ride height as what I see in your signature, the included springs length will work just fine. Out of all honesty, I say run with the 8kg all around if you're going to daily them and occasionally track/autocross it. 6kg would be a little more comfortable, but when it comes to getting down on the track, then you'll be happy to stay with 8kg on the front.

Thanks for the info fatphos. Glad to hear I won't need to change the length of the springs. I think the 8K springs should be good but if I'm being honest with myself, I know the car will see barely any track time. Something similar to 375f/450r would be ideal for me I think. I guess that would be like 7K/8K.

Have you ever ridden in a j-stock/bilstein equipped car or something similar? Do you think the 8K Megans would offer a noticeable improvement in ride quality?
The Jstocks are progressive but get super stiff in a hurry and my roads are generally garbage.

I seem to recall you had a thread somewhere with a good price on the megan's? $860 shipped thereabouts?

From Megan, all their spring rates are all in even numbers (6,8,10,12,14). More than likely you're going to end up with 6kg F, 8kg R (I would contact Chrisbmx68 on here about how his set up is since he has those spring rates). Unfortunately, I've never ridden or driven a E30 with J Stock's installed. They aren't a common spring choice due to the price and IIRC they are progressive rates I believe. I did however driven on other spring/shocks set up and by far the coilovers were the best out of the combinations I've driven/rode on.

I do indeed still sell the Megans, that price is shipped to the lower 48 states however. Hit me up if you want a set.
