    IX inserts for coilovers.

I will be cutting the strut housing for coilovers. Do I need the Billy Sports or will I be fine with new Stock IX inserts?

    Be more specific.
Do you have an iX model e30?
    Regular e30?
What are you cutting from the housings?

I have a 325i will be cutting a inch out and adding the shorter IX shocks. The IX shocks are in great condition.

Are you sectioning an inch out of your housing?
The Bilstein Sport shocks won't work if you do that.
You'll need a 2" spacer inside the housing if you use the iX insert. I don't recommend stock iX inserts though for coilovers and higher rates.

What's your plan for the car?

I meant to state in the OP IX stock or Billy Sport IX inserts. Will be running a spacer.

So no go on stock IX inserts. This will be for DD. I heard that the IX inserts are stiffer.

            Oh okay.

Yes they will be a bit stiffer and 100000x tougher than stock.

Bilstein doesnt offer a sport insert for the iX. Its HD or nothing.

So the iX Bilstein HD's are what you want. I guess a stock iX insert would work too but you wont have the Bilstein quality or warranty.

ive also considered IX billys for my coilovers. i was going to section 3" out so i dont need to run spacers. just the welds and cuts need to be perfect. or i need to find a way to cut new threads which would be ideal. just need to have perfect cuts then haha.

3" is alot to section, unless you plan on running a 7" spring... Im still tossing up how much to section out with my IX billys... leaning towards 2" with 1" spacer using my 6" 450lb springs...

Now I am thinking MR2 shock from the rear. I don't know the year/years I should be looking for.

                      I cut 1.5" out of my housings and I run a 6" 600lb spring.

I love it. Lots of travel and a great road feel

lol yes, don't section 3" out. 7" won't be enough.
