source for replacement steering rack / shaft

    Hi r3v,

After replacing both inner and outer tie rods, most of my front suspension components, and multiple alignments, it has become clear that my steering rack is pretty much shot. So before I buy a remanufactured one and slap it in there, I have a couple of questions.

    1) any specific recommendations for what/where to buy, bearing in mind that I'm on a budget?

    2) I'd like to replace the intermediate steering shaft - between the steering gear and the guibo - while I've got things apart, but do I actually need to do this? Is just replacing the guibo adequate? Most importantly, I've been unable to find this part anywhere on the interwebs. Is there any source other than the junkyard?

    thanks in advance

Rackdoctor is a good source for rebuilt racks. The swivel joints (that's what BMW call them), guibo, etc., are available from your dealer.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

wow, the dealer wants more for the swivel joint than rackdoctor wants for the entire rack. not that i'm surprised...
