    Mr2 fronts

Bought some 91 mr2 fronts and thinking instead of getting different front bearings just retapping the threads why wouldnt that work?

Its not just the threads but the shaft below it. If you can toss it on a lathe and mill off 1mm go for it. But its probably easier for most to just swap out the bearings.

You have to cut the housing in the middle, chop 2", and weld it back together, since the housing is threaded at the top for the locking nut that holds the strut in.

yup.... unless you somehow track down a tap that can cut the treads back into the inside of the housings. in which case you just cut 2" off the top.
