    BC Coilover Check List

I'm tired of my JOMS and want to purchase a real coilover set up. For people who have owned these what spring rates did you find most comfortable (no track use for my car)? Also I've emailed BC about receiving a lower rear spring but is it necessary in the front?

If you could also tell me what spring rates you got and what you would have changed that would be awesome!

    - Cheers

Well, what is the purpose of the car?

I have 10/12k. My car is a DD and I love it.

But springs are like spicy food...food that isn't spicy to me could be extremely spicy to you. Same goes with spring rates...10k/12k might not be the spring rates you are looking for. Id suggest finding a local guy and driving in their car to test spring rates

Awesome and thanks for the info. By 10k/12k you mean 10k front 12k rear correct? And would it be a fair comparison to sit in a few of my buddies have slammed static non-E30 (Passats, Rabbit, Civics, etc..) but would asking for their spring rates and sitting in them be a fair comparison?

no, the spring rates for the rear of our e30's are going to be higher spring rates do to the suspension. Their numbers could be different.

If you calculate the WHEEL rates (the % of the spring rates that the wheel sees) and compare that across different cars, it will be a closer comparison. I believe for an e30 it's about 88% front and 45% rear.

Awesome, so my mechanic is recommending I stick with BC's stock spring rates (I believe 6k front and 6k rear). I also want to go low and feel that rates like that will bounce too much. How much will the dampening adjustment prevent from bouncing?

Are the springs progressive? I think that that's too soft, especially in the rear, but that's a personal preference. I don't think you should run the same rate front and rear because of the rear suspension design. At least go 6k/8k. I had megan 8k progressive rears and they were too soft for me.

8/10 is what I'll probably go with. As for dampening - would it feel much stiffer if I put it up all the way even with 6k / 8k?

I have a set of BC coils that came in last week. Should be getting them installed in the next couple weeks. I went with 10K front 12k rear. The car will probably be going through about a dozen track days over the next year and my HR Sport springs aren't cutting it.

Hmmm do you use your car as a daily?

Megan springs are linear rates. They may be too soft, but it also depends on what rear shocks you're using. If they aren't short strokes adjustable in dampening, then your rear shock probably isn't fitted with the 8kg spring rates.

Haha I actually got those springs from you, not sure if you remember. My shocks sucked anyways and I mainly just wanted to go lower.
