price for front strut insert cartridge?

So I went to pick-n-pull the other day and removed some KYB front strut inserts and expected to pay just $7 since it wasn't the whole strut assembly which is about $30 each, for $10 more i can get brand new ones, I ended up not purchasing them.

There reason was that they said that since it was part of the strut that it had to be sold as a strut assembly. I told them that since i removed the strut insert cartridge that I should just be charged for just the strut insert, which i think is basically just a shock absorber... My question is, when you go to pick-n-pull and buy strut inserts, do how much do they charge you?

Used struts or shocks from a pick-n-pull is a real roll of the dice. They could be worse than what is on the car now. Just buy new.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

yeah i know the risk of running used shocks, but my fronts are way worse than the ones i was trying to get

i just got some rear bilstein shocks from there, $5 each,

i was trying to get the front strut inserts, which are kyb, for the same price, $5,but they wanted to charge me for a strut assembly, and i think they should charge for the price of a strut insert since i removed it from the assembly,

my question is has anyone bought strut inserts and if they charged for the whole assembly or just the strut insert

They can do what they want I bought a tailgate for my Blazer once and had to pay for the glass seperately.

Commercial street or monterey? I'd just go search for parts for another 30 min and hope to have better luck with the next guy. Pick n pull is completely a hit or miss with part pricing. I've had one person try to charge me like $200 for a diff, and others that won't even charge half the stuff you buy (for example, multiple things connected together). I'd just tell them it's a shock absorber and not a strut insert, 90% of the time they really don't care.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

New KYBs are like 50.00 per incert. Good shocks.
Just buy them new, as already said before me, shocks is not something you want to buy used.
Buying used shocks is like buying used chewing gum.
