    power steering question

guys, my power steering has been making a growling sound when i turn the wheel but only on cool days and it stops after the car is warmed up. the belt is new and adjusted corectly. fluid is fine. how can you tell if it's the rack or would it be the power steering unit itself making the noise?

Sounds like it's time for a new pump.

Try some Valvoline leak stop. A rack heading south can cause a strain on the pump. Remove some P/S fluid from the res. and replace with leak stop. Might work, might not. Worth a try before rebuilding. There is two different P/S pumps, one has a triangle pulley flange the other dosn't. Data plate on top of pump .Vickers and believe ZF.
