I've been lower than the car pictured an it's not good for daily driving dude. I have a skid plate now as well as having more ground clearance. Seriously when your car bottoms out under braking you will understand, it's good to have some clearance e30s are not ment to do 5mph everywhere to avoid smacking your pan into the pavement they are ment to be driven hard and fast which is not possible to do on 99% of roads when your that low

You'll end up spending on pans left and right. No matter how careful you are with avoiding pot holes. Unless you're willing to run super stiff rates that'll just make your car bounce of the pavement.. then maybe you can save your pan. lol With the way the m42 oil pan is set up.. a skid plate will protect it but at the same time decrease your ground clearance a bit.

i have an e30 with an m42. it sucks being low. i've gone through 5 lower pans and 1 upper. But i'm not that mindful with driving over stuff though and i don't have a skid plate. lol

before anything.. check your motor mounts.

I'm on sectioned GC housings with 6in. front springs all the way down. My skid plate touches in quite a few places. You can lower the car a lot but, as Lambo said, it gets to be a pain in the ass unless you drive on billiard table smooth roads.

It's all a trade off. If your car is gonna be low, you're gonna take out a pan or two and not be able to take the car certain places or on certain roads.

I drive 318is with ireland engineering springs and drop hats (approx 2") with no oil pan problems. Mind you I drive daily on shitty streets of Los Angeles, however my front lip take a beating.

              Firstly michigan ftw.

The roads aren't too horrible around traverse city. Get some coilovers and slowly adjust to the hight you feel comfortable daily driving on. Like everybody else said, get a skid plate and think hard about spring rates.
