So I've taken off the rear shocks, and disconnected the rear sway bar link to let the trailing arm drop, but still there isn't enough room to put in the stock springs. I've tried compressing them twice but the spring compressors get in the way when I try to put the spring back in. Does anyone have any advice on putting in the OEM springs? When they're not compressed they seem way too big to put in. Someone suggested jacking the car up by the differential but that didn't make any difference.

I didn't need compressors to pull the springs out, but it was still tight getting them out, and that was the original springs with 182k miles on them.
I'd say that if you can't get them in with the compressors, try just using a short u-bolt to compress a few of the coils. They used to sell, many moons ago, little doo-dads that would compress just a few coils together, to shorten the ride height without surgery. You could see if you could track a set of those down to help get the springs in.John in MD - 1991 318is
