Question!
Still wondering about that big nut on a 1991 318is column. It's between the pedals. Mine was real loose and flopping a bit. I tightened it up. Should it be loose enough to let the column collapse. Any info from BMW on this. IS THERE A TORQUE SPEC? If they don't want us to take a rack out of a wreck surely they would have made a non-tinker collapsible steering column.Comment

i dont think there is a tourque spec. If yours was really loose then it probably should have been tightened. After loosening mine, i tightened it back down with my bare hands as tight as i could get it, and it moved in and out just as easlily as when it was really looseComment

but i dont see why you wouldnt just take out the guibo, especailly since you have an airbag car and can just bolt the 2 sections together
Is this all thats required to stop the steering rattling over uneven / bumpy roads?Comment

My steering linkages didn't come with a Donut.
All the linkages are made of aluminum so they bend/break out of the way in an accident. The rubber donut serves no purpose for crash safety.Comment
