What are the benefits of a coilover system compared to the standard set up on an E30 for example

Ground controle coil over Vs Bilstien Sport shocks and IE Stage 3 springs

Adjustable ride height
Custom rates and lengths
Potentially shortened strut housings: more travel compared to another setup at the same height
Adjustable damping
Springs and shocks engineered together generally perform a bit better

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

Linear springs are more comfortable then progressive. Even if they the rates are a bit higher.
