No Dust Boots on HD Rear Shocks?

I just swapped out my tired old KYB rear shocks for a shiny new pair of Bilstein HD shocks today. I was surprised that the new shocks had no dust boots or shaft protection whatsoever. Do most people install the HD's w/o anything to keep dirt & grit off the shaft or did they forget to include something in the box? Thanks!

I think you can probably take the boot off of the KYB shock once you remove the RSM and put it on the Bilstein. If I'm not mistaken it's just a little rubber bushing that holds up that cover. But I don't know for sure

I reused the black covers that were on my original shocks.

When I had my Bilstein HD installed seeing the strut shaft just out in the open bugged me. I ended up pulling the original black covers from a car at pick n pull.

Since I didn't have any protector tubes on my old shocks, the originals must have gotten lost somewhere by the PO. I just ordered a pair of these tubes, p/n 33521129263.

Take the boot of the old shock... it isn't hard. And if there is no rubber bushing to hold up the boot then wrap a zip tie or two around the shaft, that should be enough to support it.
