    Springs for S52

I converted my 318is to S52 power, with the heavier engine would I be better off with H & R sports for a 325 or the Convertable springs as they are for a little heavier car. I think my s52 is probably 50 to 60lbs more than a m20.

    Thanks,

    Seth

H&R may be a little too soft up front .I'd run a coilover system because it will give you the ability to change rates.

I have 325i H&R sports on my s52 swap and I think they are great. I had a m20 before the swap and I have not noticed a difference between the two with the added engine weight.

Jesus guys, it's not like it's a big block Chevy engine going in to a Beetle...

What springs do you have now? If you're buying aftermarket lowering springs it really doesn't matter much which E30 model they're for. It's all about your personal preference./

This. I have H&R race on my 24v touring. The springs are meant for an M3 which has a light 4 cyl. engine and a lighter rear, it handles fine. Unless you're Bruno Spangler you're not going to notice a difference, especially on a street car that might see a track day or two.

I actually have Vogtland Springs from when it was a m42, they are OK but I think they sit a little too low for my oil pans health. Maybe OE Sports would be a better choice for me.

60 more pounds and you think you need new springs? Out of curiosity do you swap springs when you go grocery shopping?

There are lots of reasons to switch springs, but 60 lbs isn't one of them :)

I put H&R OE's onto my e36 m3 5lug, I still haven't sat it on the ground yet though, nor is the s52 in.

Funny you mention the grocery, my local area stores seem to be having a speed bump size contest which my car hates, especially if there is someone additional in the car. I'll post pics but just for reference my front fender lips are 23.7" and the rear is just under 24" (late model body)

If it were me, I'd first switch to stock 6cyl springs and see where you stand, then make a decision from there. I had 6cyl springs on my 318iS from the PO, and it was very high. From there you can more accurately determine how much drop you'll need/want.

It's really not a cosmetic thing, I just need a little more oil pan space, I may just throw back on the 318is springs or find some M3 springs.
