So I installed some JOM coilovers today. And im wondering, the shock I removed from the housing had oil with it in the housing. I know its for cooling and buffering the strut. Now I didn't put oil back in because I've read that depending the type of strut having oil in the housing could damage it. Did I do the right thing? How can I tell if my struts are hydraulic or whatever? Thanks.

If the bottom of the strut insert is solid metal, you can put oil in the strut housing. Nothing bad will happen if you don't. But if the bottom of the insert has a metal cap, like a Bilstein shock, don't put oil in the housing. That oil can seep into the insert and hydro lock the strut. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
