steering knuckle help

So I was in the process of the e36 steering rack swap today, and I couldn't get the length right. Both the knuckle from my e30 and the one from the e36 look nothing like the one from the diy that is done on here. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=66247 Does anyone know what model e30/ e36 that rack is from? Thanks.
