    Stiff steering!!

Alright so I have a e36 rack on my e30 and everytime I go to the track my steering stiffens up on after a few laps of pushing it. now here is where it gets tricky for me... on the track after the steering starts acting up it will get normal and easy once im getting on the throttle (im guessing this is due to the engine turnning the pump pully faster) and once i let off the throttle and brake to turn my steering becomes one hell of a workout. but in the summer once it stiffens up on the track it doesnt get easy until after I drive home. and this only happens on the track :(

so can anyone help me out here??? what could be causing this? I've done some researching and my best answer so far is the pump. but could it be the rack? anyone else have this issue?

I think I'd first suspect the pump, but it should be pretty easy to tell if it is the pump or the rack. With the car in the condition where the steering has become stiff, get the front wheels off the ground and see how hard it is to turn the wheels with the engine off. If the rack is binding it should be stiffer.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yea fluid is up to level and no wierd noises when it stiffens up
Could it be caused by the fluid being old??

I shall try that next time I go to the track but incase it is the pump can I get a pump off of any 6 cyl e36 or does it have to be a e36 steering pump?

I'd think that you'd want to use an E30 pump. I don't know if an E36 pump fits.
