    z3 rack swap oddities?

i recently finished swapping in a z3 rack in to my 85 325e, getting some strange steering feel. when not moving the weight is pretty much even across the entire length of the rack, but when i start moving thar is a bit of a stiff spot in the center and it gets rilly quite light close to full lock. eny idies on what is going on?

    front suspension set up
    204/40/17 tiers
    17x8 25off set with 25mm spacers(to clear brakes rx7/corrodo)
off set control arm bushings (about 9 deg caster)
h&r lowering springs (about 2deg camber)
    poly steering bushing

    thanks in advance

Ive read that there is slight binding in the steering UJ thing. Also failing PS pump? someone that has done this could shed some light.

your joint is binding. Soak it in wd-40 for a bit...lust spray it liberaly. If it does not help, then get under the car, loose the u-joint retaining bolts (one on the steering column and the other one on the rack)...jerk it jently up and down, use hammer if need, and make sure it tight the U-joints. If it is the streeng will be uneven and you will have issues having the wheels returning to center after the turn.

alright i will try wd40 and yes i have noticed the wheel will not come all the way back after a turn. it returns to about what you would ues for a lane change.

The binding issue can also be solved by carefully grinding down the high points on the steering knuckle, if you haven't done so already then I'd be willing to bet that's your issue. Wheels not wanting to return could also be caused by additional caster or springs binding up...

I thought more caster angel would make the wheels self center more atlest that was my experience with the off set control arm bushings. and a update the wd-40 and some time did the trick
