    Steering Rack Question

    Hi R3v

    I have an e46 m3 steering rack I would like to put in my car. I need to know what tie rods I need to use in order to make this work

          Does the e46 rack have tie-rod on it? And do you have a spare e30 tie-rod, or would you be willing to take out one (just the ball joint) of your tie-rods to compare? If the ends are the same, and within adjustment then you can use the e46. If they are not, then you have to check either the inner tie-rod thread that connects to the rack, or the compatibility of the outer tie-rod that threads into the inner tie-rod. The e30 and e36 are different male and female ends, so you may have to use e30 or e36 outer rods. Both will fit the e30. Use your thinking cap buddy! ;)

            you need e36 outer tie rods; all e36's use the same.

            I fitted new e36m outer tie rods to the Z4 rack that was installed in the race e30.

            I installed a e46m3 rack into my e36m3 grocery getter - used e36M outer tie rods with it.

            z3 = e36/7 and same as e36 all
            z4 = e46 and same as e46 all - bigger diameter taper ball joint connection to the hub.
            OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

            Z4 non powered steering rack fits e30

            Euro e46 2005/6 320d 6mt gearbox into E30 with M20 hardy and beck 1985 327s engine
