in the process of rebuilding my 95 m3 rack and i am stuck on how go remove these 2 gaskets that have a spring inside. for the smaller one i was thinking about using 2 sockets and making a press hopefully i wont damage the ball bearings and the larger one i have no idea. any help would be appreciated. i know most people just buy a rebuilt rack but i felt adventurous. PICS below new gasket next to part. the outer shell of the gasket is eather plastic or metal so it is not flexable.

Hammer a pick in between the outside of the seal and the bearing, then bend the seal inward on itself. Then just pry it out.
The bearing race will be hardened steel, but still be careful not to mar it up. -
ok! i was finally able to get the little one out with a homemade press, however the large one i cant get it loose! what is that white part behind the gasket with the line on it? is it needed incase i damage it? ive been picking away nothing, pb blaster, wd40 even stuck it in the freezer, nada... im temped to use the drummel to it.. also already ripped the rubber and spring trying to pry it outComment
