    Question about highway pulling

So this is a question for my DD that is not my e30. At the moment I have my 30 on jack stands getting a complete refresh. So I DD a 01 ford focus (FWD) and she is pretty reliable, recently I hit a pretty big pot hole and got a knot on my sidewall. took it to get new tires and she drove fine for about 2-3 weeks then I noticed while going above 40 mph my steering starts acting funny. For example, if the highway starts to do a slight turn (jumping onto a highway that runs perpendicular to the one I am on) I turn the wheel and there is about half a second delay and the wheels feel like they jerk in response. The jerk is strong enough to scare me a little and has me worried, this does not happen when going below 20. Anyways, I have reason to believe that the tie rods are going on this car (from PO, I never had symptoms) but before I jump the gun on new tie rods is there anything else it could be? I also have a suspicion that it might be motor mounts since the car vibrates excessively while I idle but I have never experienced a swinging engine before so im not sure if it could be that. I will be lifting it on a jack in a few hours when it dries up here and I would like to test everything out under the car.

    My don't quote me list:

If you hit a pothole hard enough to damage a tire, there well could be damage to the suspension. Have the car inspected by an experienced Ford tech and have the alignment checked.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
