    Power steering retrofit? help

    Hey guys I've got an e30 316 powered by an m10 and the car has no power steering so just looking into fitting it, any info and tips you could give me would be great.

    I found this though, haven't asked the guy any questions yet but I'm assuming it will just bolt straight in just unsure about the pump - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....tchlink:top:en

    dont need power steering, just draws 3-5% of your engines horsepower. M10 doesnt have much to begin with.

        I like having no power steering it would be just easier to drive with it

          It's hard to say if a used rack or p/s pump is a decent deal. Pretty good chance you could be buying a blown rack. The problem is if the rack is a leaker then most likely the pump has been run when dry. Also FWIW the hoses have to still be good. When I say the hoses are "good". This means no deterioration on the inside. One cause of a blown rack which is prevelant is hoses which are old and flaking on the interior. These pieces of hose are caught in the rack and cause problems. If you go the used rack route flush the hoses, pump and rack into a container and see what you have. If good ie no crap buy a new resevoir and banjo bolt crush washers and splash with holy water to achieve a long life. BTW the rack to steering shaft ujoint connection can be a Motherfer. Use a air chisel on the spreader gap if it gives you problems after bathing with PB Blaster or your choice of miracle juice. Use a triangular file to dress the splines, interior and exterior. One little nick can make your life hell if they have swarf or nicks.
