    bilstein and h&r sport

I just got some h&r lowering springs for my IX and I want to keep my current bilstein shock till they die since they are fairly new

I hear there are lots of issues with the shock bottoming out

I think I remember a sort of diy on taking them apart and cutting the internal rubber stops

Is this just a ix thing?
Am I crazy and just making this up?
    Will it rain tomorrow?

I cut mine down after reading several threads on it. Not just an iX thing. Easy to do once the shock's off the car.

        Here's a little vid I uploaded...

Pull the insert, flip it upside down, and whack it on the new carpet in your living room. ;)

In all seriousness...make sure you hit the stem on something soft, not concrete or the like.

And then I just push the cap back on with a rubber mallet? That looks way easier then I thought there is no pressure or any gas in the shock

The Billys aren't as complicated as some may think. It's just an upside down damper in a casing with a dust wiper. The fat shiney shaft you see is just the shock body.
