New Koni's don't fit through rear shock mounts

So I'm in the process of swapping out my crappy JOM shocks for some Koni's. ECS was running a sale on their 80411186SPORT. I emailed them to verify that they will work and they confirmed since I could not find that specific shock applying to the e30. However, today when I received them I tried to put everything together- the top threaded shaft that goes through the rubber shock mount is too wide.

Now I did order new shock mounts (33526779670) I'm not sure if they are too small or the shock shaft diameter is too large. I can't for the life of me remove my old ones to find out.

Does the top strut shaft very in size? I can't seem to find any information on the diameter changing. I mean, I can always drill out the sleeve to fit it. Anyone have any insight?

Top adjustable Konis require a 12mm shock mount. You *can* drill out the stock mount (basically, people only do this for rules compliance), or you can get better shock mounts.

Thanks nrubstein, that is exactly the answer I needed.

I'm guessing this isn't something they are going to have at an autoparts store is it? Wondering what other mounts are 12mm (M-technik, e36) ?

My E36 mounts have a 10mm hole as well. I could be wrong but I believe E46 would be the same seeing as how they are a direct fit on E30s. Best bet, imo, is to buy new ones or drill out the old ones. I'd drill out the old ones and run those till the new ones arrived.

Just purchased some GC ones from the classifieds for $75...not happy about the poly ride quality but I guess that is what I need to do.

Tried drilling out my old ones and stopped. I don't feel comfortable riding those forever.
