Help with IE front Sway Bar

S50 in a E30 sedan with 1997 E36 M3 control arms. IE sway bar hitting the control arms, tried adjusting no pre-load with same results. Anyone having similar issues?

yes this is a known issue. you need to weld on M3 style sway to strut mounts.
    Much wow

      Didn't work

I did install my e30 m3 front suspension on it and got the same results if not worse! What do you think, should i use the e36 struts with e30 m3 links?

The IE bar was designed to fit the e30 obviously. The issue is with the control arm (since it was not designed for the E30), not the swaybar. Think an easy fix would be running e30 control arms

Where exactly are you experience contact on the control arm?

bulgari, the only way i could see what you have working is to raise your front up 1/2 inch. this would give you the needed clearance. your control arms are going past 90 degrees and striking the mounts.

Aside from slight differences that affect caster, all the steel e30/36 arms are practically identical. Odds are you've got something else going on... how tight is the fitment between the IE bar and the stock e30 arms? Can't imagine it's that much different?

Well the E36 M3 arms he is using are different (10mm if memory serves), add that with casting differences (another 10mm maybe). Then remember the 25mm bar follows the same route as the stock bar and 25mm bar's radius is only increased about 3/16" over stock. Then, as Cab says, he's running low enough to have the control arms go over 90° (which is a whole other issue).

So in practical terms, a little here, a little there all add up to be an issue. I might be able to help if he says where exactly its contacting the bar (It looks like the mounting point?)

Yes, that is exactly where it hits when driving on uneven roads. It looks like the gap on the right side is bigger than the left side. When using e36 m3 struts it would knock rarely but not as bad as now, with the e30 m3 suspension. I will try to increase the height with .5" and see if that works evendough i hate to do that.

Maybe i should just buy a different say bar?

If the problem is the arm is hitting the mount, then changing the swaybar wouldn't accomplish anything.

You might be able the find a smaller bushing and bracket that still fits a 25mm bar. If you have the patience I can look into it come Monday/Tuesday.

did you buy the sway used?
maybe its bent if there is a difference left to right
