I recently replaced my oil pan, pump tie rods and steering rack after hitting an exposed manhole cover some 8 months ago. The car was sitting idle since late November. This past sunday was the first time ive had time to work on it since. Spent sunday replacing the broken damaged parts and took the car for a spin to see if everything was running right. The engine ran perfectly but something was amiss with the steering. It turned just fine but there was about an inch of play in either direction before the steering wheel would actually turn the wheels on the car. im not sure how to explain it but i popped the hood and found this
(i know its a horrible camphone pic but its the best i can do) this is my u joint (i think) but this is seemingly the source of the problem. Is it supposed to look like that? Can anyone show me what it should look like and how can i fix it? Can it even be fixed? Am i screwed?
thanks in advance
