    tools needed for strut/shock/spring replacement

ok so besides the obvious wrenches and ratchets, plus ball joint seperator and spring compressors, what other specialty tools will I need for replacing the front struts and rear shocks and springs?

as always, I'm in the middle of the job, without the proper tools to finish it. sigh, I should have asked this question weeks ago.

Impact gun helps a lot, especially with removing the strut nut. Big pipe wrench to remove the gland nut to remove the strut insert. Other than that and what you listed, you should be good.

If you don't use an impact gun on the strut nut, you will need the special socket thing to turn the nut while you hold the strut shaft with a wrench or allen wrench.

I used a rag with vice grips on my fathers Z3, that worked fine for that. good, I'm relieved that I won't need anything else. I got to the control are and tie rod, and they were seized up and it dawned on me that I only just skimmed the bentley on how to do the suspension.
