    Does 325e have idler arm?

    Hi,

New person here. I just got my e30 last week and a friend of a friend told me about this forum.

I have a bumpy shake that happens over big bumps in the road. Makes the steering wheel wobble just a little bit. I took it back to the dealer where I got it. I thought it was maybe a ball joint - I know a little about cars, my uncle is a Toyota Tech.

The dealer's mechanic, who I am not sure I trust, said it was an idler arm. I did some searching and I could not find a parts palce that sells an idler arm, which leads me to believe there isnt one on this car.

Can one of you guys help me?

From searching, I saw I need a bentley - ordered one from Amazon, but until then I need your help!

    Thx,

    Jenn

First off, Welcome and congrats on the new purchase!

I'd have to say you might want to find a new mechanic. E30's have rack and pinion steering, so no idler arms. The 5 series of the same era did have idler arms, but that makes no difference in your case.

As for a shimmy over bumps.... I'd check for worn/blown struts, worn control arm bushings, worn tie rods or balljoints.

    Good luck!

ask some the the E30 folks in your town who they take their cars to (if anyone) if you dont do the work yourself like alot of us then a good mechanic is like a god to you.

I'll be down by Cincy in about 2 weeks or so and I might be able to stop by and take a looksy if you would like. I will be delivering wheels/tires to DaveCN who lives just south of cincy in KY.

i didnt think it had an idler arm. I knew that guy seemed a little shady. My uncle is helping me do the timing belt soon and he said he'd check out the suspension. He thinks maybe a tie rod or the steering rack might be it - that or ball joints.

Sounds like you got the right idea - check that stuff. Could be control arm bushings too. Could be lots of parts down there, actually. Check em all!
