are bigger sway bars worth it for a street car?

I was pretty set on going hr front and rear sway bars, but as I've been researching some people don't even run a sway bar on the rear, and that springs can cancel body roll better than sway bars? Is $400 plus for both front and rear worth it for a street car?

I would say yes it is worth it. I got hr race springs on my car and that definitely helped. But then I added on IE front 22? sway bar and kept the stock rear. Made a huge difference I thought on the rigidity and overall planted feel of the car in tight turns.

Yes, very much worth it. But make sure whichever kit includes the proper reinforcements.

But you shouldn't need convincing over the internets .... I'm sure you can find a fellow enthusiast in your area to give you a ride.

It's totally worth it, and I strongly suggest that you look in to getting the large OE bars brand new. Granted you won't get any adjustability, but it's a 100% bolt in (no drilling nonsense), and a sufficient improvement for the lower investment. It also does not seem to be overly aggressive so as to snap mounts and require weld in reinforcements.

Don't forget to get the correct sized mount bushings if you go this route. IIRC you use the same end links and mount clamps.
