GC Koni fronts leaking???

anyone ever had this happen? my brother is with my car getting some other work done and he told me that both fronts are leaking.
the fronts are a little soft but they were like that from when i had them installed. how do i tell if they are gas or oil??? also, has anyone had their fronts leak within 2 months of having the suspension installed???
i heard that they will leak a little when they are getting worn in because there is excess oil in the shock/strut.

i'll update later as to what is going on.

update: my brother told me that there was a lot of fluid came out when the shocks were removed and the mechanic said on of the seals were toast.
anyone have anything similar happen?

there is oil in the strut housing that i made to help cool oil shocks, though i think konis are gas so you wouldnt see them leaking anyways

Gas struts don't require oil in the housing. Maybe that was left in there when they were changed.

so the stock struts were oil and the housings had atf in the housing, but are all koni yellows from GC gas struts?

and struts are the fronts and shocks are the rears correct???

Yes of course they are "gas" struts .
But that means there is still oil in the shocks but instead of just being in there under atmospheric pressure ..they are actually pressurized with gas .
Thats where the "gas" part comes in .

If they have lost fluid/pressure you should be able to easily compress/expand them by hand .
If so then they are toast and you should just send them back to GC or Koni directly and have them rebuilt .

No it will be EXACTLY tha same as a perfectly good non-leaking strut . :roll:

The corner with the blown strut will be more bouncy and almost certainly will be drooping a bit .

if its fully blown, ya of course theres a difference...but if its slowly leaking?
my brother told me there was fluid going down the strut housing on both fronts. driver side was worse.

Teaguer is right on about "gas" shocks having oil in them.



If your shocks are slowly leaking, they are not performing as well as non-leaking shocks and will eventually drain most of the fluid out and cease to function as a dampner. If your Koni's are two months old and leaking, take them back. They're still under warranty.
