Distance between shock mounts

I was checking out IE's site and they state there are different size bars avail. They instruct to measure distance between struts.

I have a question about taking the measurement.

HOw do u measure straight accross, when the intake manifold is blocking.

a lot of variables count for a bar not fitting your car, age and how hard it's been driven or abused are some. I bought a sparco bar and fortunately for me the bar went straight on. I took it off after being driving hard by myself and doing an engine swap, then i tried to put it back on while it was on the wheels but it woudlnt' go on until i jacked it up to let the frame pull apart a bit for the bar to fit. I hope that makes since. from what i'm guessing it's the side of the strut towers

i've read that jacking up the front and letting things settle can change things. Does anyone else find it confusing that IE offers 2 bars and all other mfgs offer 1.
