Z4 manual steering rack in an airbag E30

Does anyone know a comprehensive method or guide on how to make this happen?

I know it's been done and I've scoured all search results with no real conclusion besides some people stating they needed stuff welded or fabricated, and others saying some off the shelf u-joints work just as well.

I'm too intrigued by eliminating a/c and power steering, but if I can't find a way I might just do the tried and true z3 rack.

Either welding one or piecing one together from flaming river's catalog is going to be your best bet. The biggest issue is the bigger spline on the Z4 rack(The motor for electric power steering was in the column so the shaft had to be beefier). So no, there isn't really a comprehensive guide but it's pretty easy to figure out and do assuming there isn't an engine in the car. Measure twice, cut/buy once.
