    Sway bar setup questions

Ok, I've started autox'ing this year (first one was on memorial day) and have the suspension completely taken care of, with the exception of sway bars. I haven't done sway bars yet. Now, I am curious to find out who runs with stock sways and if anyone runs without the rear bar connected. I am getting huge amounts of understeer (push) when cornering and the back end is just following. I am curious to see if I were to disconnect the rear bar if it would help any and give me a little bit of oversteer or atleast get rid of some of the understeer. Yes, I am running on street tires for now until I can learn my car better and get to the point where I need r-comps to go any faster.

    Thanks,
    Jon

If this is in the wrong forum the please by all means move it.

To get less understeer/more oversteer you should disconnect the front ARB not the rear.

well, when i set my suspension for autox'ing i usually put as much camber and castor that my front suspension plates will allow.
i will disconnect the front sway bar in the next few days and see how it feels and will get back on here to tell you how it feels.

For more oversteer you need to either increase front grip (lots of good ways) or decrease rear grip (more rear sway bar is the best way to do this)

Removing your rear sway bar will make your problem much, much, worse.

Plenty of people run with stock swaybars. The problem isn't the car, it's the driver. Your habits make the car understeer.

I have and know others who have drifted a stock E30, or one on lowering springs and stock swaybars.

You can change the behavior of the car by changing your behavior as a driver. You probably need to brake a little to get more grip on the front tires so you can turn. Use weight transfer to your advantage.

yea, i wouldn't be surprised since i have only been autox'ing twice now. instead of removing one of the sways, should I fidget with the tire pressures a little? maybe bump up the rear tires a little more than the fronts?

thanks, i will deffinitely make sure i have about 5 psi more air in the back tires, than the fronts, next time out (about 2 weeks).
