clunking/knocking noise when i turn left?

Hi everyone. I just bought my first car, an 89 325i, and when I turn the steering wheel left i hear a hollow knocking noise. It appears to be related to speed, aka faster knocking when i'm traveling faster. The car still corners hard and there doesn't appear to be any handling loss compared to turned right. The sound appears to be coming from the front of the car, but I could be wrong. Now I'll be honest here, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this stuff but on the same token I'm trying to get my hands dirty and learn. Essentially, I'd appreciate any pointers for what I should be looking for or where to start tightening every nut i see, etc.
    Thanks!

Its pretty damn hard to diagnose noises of the internet but two things come to ming.

Worn out wheel bearing seems like the most likely culprit, but it could also be a shoddy balljoint. Does it happen every time you turn, or just over bumps?

It's not FWD. I second the front wheel bearings.

did you check the strut mount bearings? my wheel bearings are in perfect shape...but i know that my right strut mount bearing is done. every time i pull up to a driveway with the right wheel coming in first i hear a pop.

check your lolli-pop bushings as well.

the rear axle has cv joints....check the CV boots for cracks because dirt will prematurely wear out or even granade your cv joint and then you'll have to buy a new axle because the CV joints on this car arent serviceable. a new axle is anywhere from $200-300. I've only seen 1 brand of cv boots and they are $21 (outer) and $26 (inner). i just bought a pair this week for my 4.10lsd swap.

I too had that noise in my previous e30 and it was the Center Driveshaft Bushing/bearing. If you dont experience vibration in the steering wheel at 30-50mph then its NOT the wheel bearings but a CSB or CV joint.

(lol this is one of my first usefull post since i've been on r3v)
            No more e30s for me.
