I payed for one of those 3yr unlimited alignment deals at NTB for $140. Sounds great and is however what they fail to tell you is it doesn't cover alignments due too any suspension work. You have to pay a separate/additional $50 to have it aligned in that case but the 3 yrs continues. I sent my girl to do it and they didn't mention anything, which is cool, however denied her the alignment because they said the inner tie rod is loose. That is BS, I had the car up on the lift about an hour ago, removed the boot shook the tire and there was no play where the ITR screws into the steering rack shaft. Besides I just rebuilt the rack and there wasn't any play in it when I put it back together. The tire does indeed play BARELY and I believe I found the reason. It seems the steering columm knuckle or coupling has a little play. Nothing that bad. Wouldn't I be ok if they just aligned the fricking car too as spec as possible? The car doesn't pull, doesn't vibrate or any of that shiite.

It's ok, every e30 I have seen has a steering rack that allows the wheel to move side to side a little bit. It's the steering rack itself. My 2.9L Build!

yeah, its funny you say that cause me and my cousin deduced that it may very well be the very small gap in between the teeth on the steering rack shaft and the gears on the valve body (81) in the pic below. All I need to do is talk these guys into doing the alignment as best as possible. If not I will have to pay again to have it done somewhere else. The play is very ssmall.. Regardless though, the steering columm coupling/knuckle does seem like it has some play.
