The number of coils a spring has has a large effect on the spring rate. I am getting home on Sunday and I have some stock e36 m3 springs in my garage that I can measure. I know I put the rears on my 1991 318is with no spring pads and it was as high or higher than stock height. I would guess with spring pads it would be another 1/4" higher or more. The grilles really distract you from the fact that someone took a sledgehammer to the front end.
