    KYB Shocks?

    Hey guys!

Im trying to convince my dad on lowering is e30 convertible. It seriously looks like a monstertruck with 17 inch mags!

Just got back from the garage and saw that he actually has KYB Shocks!!! What are your experiences and thoughts about KYB? Would they be good for applying the apex springs like I did to my e30?

cheap...i had them in a car and performed like they should but they are not the kind of shocks you want to use for lowering or performance of any kind unless you're talking about KYB AGX adjustables which my partner-in-crime has on his ae86 and has rocked them for almost two years with full success on his 8f/6r spring rates.
    No more e30s for me.

KYB AGX are very good shocks and are a very good price also. Too bad I don't think they make them for the e30

Don't let anyone who has never owned them tell you how good KYBs are, or are not. They only make one model for each end, so KYB is KYB on an E30.

I have had them on my car for 3 years now, 2 sets of 215/40/17s, about 20,000 miles. They are just fine for all but the most "spirited" of driving, and my car is pretty low, about 2.25 drop.

It could use more compression damping, and a tiny bit more rebound, but all in all, pretty good.

I will agree, Billys are better, but KYB has a great "feel", are inexpensive, work fine on a lowered car and last a very long time.

Oh yeah, this is my 4th car on KYBs, lowered. Over 300,000 miles on them, between the 4.

KYBs are great for street. I've had a few cars on them (lowered and not lowered), for the money, and for a street car, they really cant be beat. They ride nice and they last.

If you want to autoX...well then id say buy something a little better .

I had AGX's in my 510 but the front inserts were actually made for an mr2. I had some spare e30 strut tubes in my garage and for fun checked if the 510 inserts would work in them and they fit. They are a few inches shorter so you would have to run a spacer and/or shorten the strut. Just a thought...
The grilles really distract you from the fact that someone took a sledgehammer to the front end.

I will take some pictures later today. The AGX's are in my 510 right now but I have some regular KYB inserts that fit a 280zx which is what the struts in the 510 are out of and those also fit and are a little bit shorter. If all of this holds true, you should be able to run a VW Rabbit insert as well.
