I just put my GC coilovers on my new 1990 325i today and the tire rubs the spring perch slightly. I took the struts and coilovers off of my 1991 318is which was in a front end collision. When I took them off the 318 I inspected them and they didn't seem to be bent but now the tire rubs the strut and the wheel on the passengers side looks tucked in too much. FYI the 325 has bottlecaps and the 318 had basketweaves. Could the spindle or strut be bent from the crash or is it just the bottlecaps have a higher offset or what? Thanks.
Bent Spindle?

Strut could easily be bent. Look at the bottom where the tube meets the flange for the balljoints. See how square it is. If its not square, the strut is bent and youll need a new one.

It's most likely the strut if anything. They are the first to bend. If the spindle is bent, though, you won't really be able to see it since it's cast. The only way is to see if there is anyplace where there is 'fresh' rust or debris knocked off in sort of a tiny vein look.sigpicComment
