Ok, i need some help/advise... I have my first E30ic and i want to drop just the front about 1" to 1 1/2"... do the OE springs that came on the M3's provide a drop? is there any company that would sell just the front spings, not just the entire kit? I really like the ride height that the rear has... i am just wanting to close in the large gap up front and improve the handling a bit...
M3 springs? dropping just the front...

From the factory an E30 has almost perfect front to rear weight balance. If you drop only the front you'll be shifting weight to the front wheels and the result will be a pretty tail happy car. If you are going to play with the springs, do it right with a matched set.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

i just put some M3 springs on my cabrio about a month ago and it was about 1/2". its noticeably lower and stiffer but not a huge change. it did give it some rake though because the M20 is heaver than the S14Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment

That make no sense what so ever! first by dropping the front 1" it will not shift the weight enough to make any difference in the way it is "balanced" and 2nd, every single "kit" on the market drops the front down lower than the rear! so ultimately what your saying is that every person that has put a lowering kit on there E30 has messed up the balance of there car...Comment

Thanks! i'm glad to hear from someone who has already done it to theirs!:DComment

Believe it or not, 1" actually is enough, especially when the front springs are stiffer than the back. That car would be downright scary at speed in the rain. i've ridden in one with this setup, definitely do the front and rear.Comment

Sorry to bring back a dead thread but I thought this was pretty amusing...
So just last week I got the H&R Sport springs and installed them. Now here is the amusing part. My car has 235K miles on the springs, so when I installed the rear HR springs it actually lifted the back end up 1/2"...
So the stance is perfect and I'm loving the ride!Comment

If your car actually did lift in the rear then you need to check your trailing arm bushings. No matter how many miles you have on your car, when installing lowering springs, there should be absolutely no lift. Only drop.
I would definitely check out your rear suspension.
