My IE bars are less than 2 months old and they are blue. Every set of IE bars I've seen are blue.

Hey man. I'd have to agree with pretty much everybody else here, they are probably IE bars. Especially considering you're down in SoCal nearby IE. You've probably seen it by now but perhaps not before you posted, I remembered the mfr of my ancient '02 bar, it was made by Miller and Norburn, but they crumbled before E30's even really existed :) Taking a chance, I guess it could possibly be an old Hardy and Beck bar, if they ever made something for the E30, but I dont know. I'd put a small amount of money on it being an IE bar though. Were there no markings on it at all?

If his car is an eta like it says in his avatar then they should be 18.5mm front and 12mm rear. Late model 86's had 20mm fronts and 12mm rears.

Mine had the big bars, it's the hot-rod eS edition.

I cleaned the entire bar with acetone to give them a nice surface to look at but I didn't see a part number or letters or anything.

Do yours have ~3 yellow dots on each side in the front? (IIRC)

Not that I recall. The entire bar is one color and has a little less paint where the bushings mount.
