Is there a thread somewhere that tells you how to take apart the front suspension? I bought some springs and shocks and want to swap them onto my car.
How to DIY the front suspension?

Get it on jack stands.
Take the wheels off.
Unbolt the brake calipers from the strut.
Hang the caliper by some wire in the wheel well so its not hanging from the brake line.
Disconnect the sway bar.
Unplug and free up the 1 (passenger) or 2 (driver) wires/sensors.
Take off the bolts on the top of the outer tie rod ball joint, and the outer Control Arm Ball joint.
A big hammer, or BMW's ball joint seperator works likt a charm to get the ball joints free.
Then remove the three nuts on the top of the strut mount in the engine bay.
Then bam. It falls on your foot.
There is one nut on top of the Strut bearing/mount that holds the spring in. Careful as there is a lot of force from that spring. About 400 lbs of force. Use a spring compressor if you can.
then there is the collar around the shock, holding it in the strut tube. This has to be loosened to remove it. If you got Hydraulic shocks ie Bilsteins, make sure to remove any oil from inside the strut tube. Gas shocks require a little bit of oil in the tube.
Be sure to use and tighten the new shock's collar to 90 ft lbs.sigpicComment
