Reasonable lowering using stock "is" springs?

So no one uses stock BMW springs from one application to another? I've been through the "sticky" thread up top & the one with spring rates.
Our faithful '85 325e has been driven by my wife, so has not had any performance mods - "perfect the way it is," she says. It is now in my & 16 y/o son's hands!
There is a hand's width between the top of the tires & bottom of wheel wells, so we'd like to bring it down a bit.
I found a set of used stock 325is springs (son is on a budget) - is that any improvement or drop?
Thanks in advance. Son & I have a chance to bond over this project! He will be spending some time behind the wheel with our NCC's highway safety school and Street Survivor programs.

Your best bet for cheap, lower and a bit stiffer is e30 M3 springs. You can usually get them pretty cheap and they will go right in place of the stock e springs.

just go with vogtland springs. they are like eibach pro-kit progressive springs, just a lil stiffer than stock, and lowers about 1". and they are fairly cheap ~150

I replaced my girlfriend's skyrider convertible front springs with is springs, and the car dropped at least an inch.

Don't know if your e would have similar results.
