Help me ID this steering rack.

I bought this steering rack from strictly german as a replacement for my dead e30 rack. Upon finishing installation, took the car out for a ride and the feeling was disappointing.

Completely off center, even though I locked the steering wheel in its center position and made sure the rack was evenly positioned on both ends. Steering is extremely loose and to drive straight I have to hold the steering wheel at an angle.

I will attempt to re-install and in the meantime, I notice the tag on the "new" steering rack is different than the old one. The numbers are different and the old tag is green. This one is red.... Is there anyway to tell which car was this rack made for?

It sounds to me like toe isn't correctly set and the tie rods need adjusting to center the wheel. Have had the front aligned since replacing the rack?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Not yet but that is my next step. Yesterday, I re-installed the steering rack 3 times, following the Bentley manual step by step and I still got the same result, steering wheel is off center.

I made sure the marks on the steering gear shaft lined up with the mark on the steering rack casing and then lined up with the slot on the steering shaft u-joint assembly. I know the steering rack is dead centered with the wheels and steering wheel. However, as soon as I unlock the steering wheel and begin driving the steering wheel feels very loose and next thing I know, I'm holding it sideways to drive straight.

I knew the car was going to be off specs after this but I didn't think it was going to be this bad. Is there anyway to center the steering wheel without separating the steering rack shaft from the u-joint assembly?

The tie rod ends appear to be even on both ends, I measured them yesterday.

remove the steering wheel, move it around in right position, and put it back on, lol.

        Do it after alignment though.
