    Silly GC strut question

Do I need to remove the whole strut from the car to pull out my Konis cartridges? I am running a GC coilover with Camber plates and was hoping to pull the cartridge out of the strut without pulling the whole strut out..
    Thanx

eh, it mite be possible. pain in the ass but possible.

take off wheel, remove caliper(keeping hose on, just hang the caliper), remove top strut bolt from camber plate, unbolt CAB, and you mite be able to get the strut housing to hang down/out enought to get the strut out. definately not the best method, but if you really wanna keep the assembly on the car...

you can do it w/o removing the strut, disconnect sway bar, and you'll have to compress the insert and be quick enough for it to clear the fender. i've done it once or twice this way when I had to do it in a hurry.

          fender is off

Well my fender is off car anyway. I guess this would be the best time to pull it since I am painting door & fender. I think I put a bushing in wrong on my GC coilover setup making it clunk and now might be best time to fix with fender off. Gracias

Here is a good trick for trying to change the spring, or bushings or anything without removing the whole strut:

I turn the rebound up all the way, this lets you push the strut shaft down, and it will stay down while you change whatever needs to be changed. Then it will slowly come back up (because of the gas pressure), and you just guide it into place.

Depending on what I'm doing, sometimes I leave the sway bar hooked up to keep the strut from flopping down and stretching the brake line. I can push down against the tension of the sway bar, but it won't flop down.

              Thanks Jay from Ground Control

The reason I need to remove my strut is a G.C. coilover issue. There was a little bushing that I put on top of the camber and I believe it goes under camber plate to to help in rotation of strut in turns. It pops now. Bushing is about is about 1/2' inch high and just a little under 3/4 " in diameter. I luv my GC coilover kit with camber plates and top adjusters on Koni shocks and struts. But I did struggle with lack of installation guide info. And I do appreciate your point/counterpoint on your camber plates.
