    Help: Bistein part number decription.

Does any one know what Bistein part numbers stand for?

I'd imagine like the rest of German companies, their part numbers would be grouped and somehow follow an order. I've notices that all 45mm housings for many manufacturers strut with b30-p30 and then 51mm start with p36-b36. So does any have information on that?

Has this been covered somewhere? thanks for any help.

Search Bilstein's application guide on their website.

The 30, or 36, or 46 for shocks refers to the INSIDE diameter of the shock itself. The actual guts where the oil is.

2mm wall thickness is very common in metric tubing, so if you have a 50mm outside diameter, then 2mm thick on one side and 2mm on the other side leaves the hole in the middle (where you are installing the guts and oil of the shock) at 46mm. This would be called a B46

Almost exactly the same for the struts. The chrome part (not the yellow part) is the working part, and the OD that is 34mm, has an internal diameter of 30mm. This would be called a P30.

P30 fits the small diameter (45mm OD strut housing) and the P36 fits the 51mm strut housings.

B means shocks, and P means struts

        And now you have knowledge.

          Cool, now riddle me this:

Camaro Billy # p36-0251 and iX Billy #p36-0201 are nearly identical in size (few mm difference). What's "02"? and what are "01" and "51" stand for.

I was also told that letter such as V, H, O and others are the ones that describe stiffness, is there a chart that explains that?

I like this thread, very informative. Good work Jay.

A guess at the other number would be strut travel. 201mm is almost 8" and 251mm is almost 10"
