Identifying Billy Sports while on the car?

The PO said the car has Billy Sports on it, and I was wondering if it's possible to check if they're actually on the car since they're in the shock tubes.

I tried to peek under but didn't see any yellow casings. Do they come in black also? Thanks.

Rears are easy, they're yellow and they have the number stamped into them. Fronts require tearing apart the strut assembly. If you're seeing black shocks I bet he's telling porky pies. Black Bilsteins are the Tourings.

All of the Sports are yellow... I think the Tourings are grey.

Ok, and how can I identify if they're just stocks?

Yes, yellow. Try Google for Bilstein's website and/or pics of what you're looking for.

Tourings are black, as I said in my previous post. Here's an auction on eBay for some.

Uh, look for the BMW roundel or OEM part number?

On the rear go by the yellow color and part number to tell if they are HD's or Sports .

On the front you can expose the shock shaft and tell if they HD's or Sports as opposed to some other brand ...but you can't tel;l the difference between the HD's or sports without removing them .

Do they at least have nice soft blue dust boots on the front ?

Meh, I didn't see them when I tried to look, but it was dark so I'll have to check again.

Is this a car you are trying to buy ?
If so does it really matter ? Just buy it already .

Bought it a few months ago.
Whether it's already got sports on it is a deciding factor in my coilover choice.

The part number is at the top

The part number is around the top, under the strut mount inside the bootie. Bilsteins are the ONLY strut you can tell what part number you have without removing the strut from the car.

You might have to move your fingers around and use a flashlight, but it can still be done.
