    Swaybar mounts ripped out!

I climbed under my '87 yesterday and discovered that the passenger side swaybar/body mount was ripped out and the bracket was gone. Then when I looked over at the driver side, the swaybar link-to-control arm mount was sheared off as well. I've had the ST swaybar kit on since '02, and I've no idea how long its been like this:(. So, I unbolted everything and wiggled it out the passenger side. Now to find a welder...

My E30 was like that on the front when I purchased it with just the stock sway bars. I bought a new front subframe and had reinforcements welded on and then installed it. Now that the sway bar is back connected my right front shock has started spewing oil. I guess it was old anyways and the extra stress from the sway bar put it over the edge.

Stiff swaybars + soft springs = broken tabs

Start with stiffer springs, and spice up handling with a little swaybar. Not the other way around.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

            rear...

After I removed the swaybar, the clicking noise I thought was a CV joint has gone away. I guess I should drive it around some more to see if the noise comes back.

Exactly. Spring perches were designed for wheel loads. Sway bar mounts and tabs were not. More spring with less bar will give you dynamic performance everywhere, not just mid-corner.

you more than likely don't need a rear sway anyway. It depends on your susp setup, but there are plenty of guys that run sans rear sway. Including me ;)
