My daily driver e30 runs a very similiar set up to the Spec e30 rates (GC 550f & 700r) and I am very surprised with the decent ride quality, even on poor quality LA roads. It's still a firm ride, but definitely not bone jarring. The car does use Koni Sports though (not Bilstein), which makes for a better ride quality on a street car. Sticking with rubber bushings also helps keep things civil on a daily driver.

If you can find someone with a car that uses the rates you're considering, see if you can go for a ride in their car, as ride quality is very subjective. Otherwise H&R Sports with Bilstein or Koni Sports are the usual tried-and-true daily driver suspension combos.

As for installation, the GC kit comes with instructions, otherwise there are a handful of write-ups and videos online showing how to install them. Chopping the stock spring perch isn't necessary, but does give better access and a little more adjustability:

Interesting. I've been looking at this setup for a while now for my M52 swapped sedan. At the moment I'm running on H&Rs but I think my car is not low enough. One thing I'd like to know is, if I decided not to chop the stock spring perch, how difficult is it to adjust the suspension? I'm not planning to slam the car down.
