    What are the widest 215 40 17's?

I know they're all 215mm wide, in theory...

... but some tires are wider than others, even in the same width.

Can you tell me what the widest 215 40 17's are? I want the minimal amount of stretch on 8" wide wheels.

    Thanks!

My Nexen N3000s are pretty wide, they are basically square shouldered on an 8" wide wheel.

Yup. The N3000s are square shouldered on my 17x8 with a 205/40/17. The previous 205/40/17 (Nankang) was pretty stretched.

Federal 595. They run way out of spec wide in every size I've compared.

              1. Tread width will increase as aspect ratio decreases. So a 225/45 will typically have more tread than a 225/50 of the same tire.

              2. Second for the 595s, I was going to get 245/40s for my old 18x8s, turns out the 235/40 Federals were just oversquare (as in, a little narrower would have been perfect). Plus they're dirt cheap and grip well, although the sidewalls leave a bit to be desired.

I agree. I sell Federal tires and they are always way wider than other brands.

How are Toyo T1-R's? Relatively skinny, or relatively wide?
